At Howl we specialise in journeying skills, the Bushcraft we practice and teach is that of the traveler. There is a wonderful simplicity that comes from taking a trip in the outdoors, a pragmatism gleaned from necessity. We draw from this experience in the field to teach a set of skills and knowledge based in expedience and realism, skills that actually get used while outdoors. We provide an insight into the Natural world, opening up a vast array of natural resources and knowledge to help you travel with less reliance on the contents of your rucksack: it’s what you carry in your mind that matters.

We teach these practical skills in a friendly and open way, our hope being to enable you to make your adventures into the Great Outdoors memorable and enjoyable. We'll help you cultivate a positive attitude, a confidence in yourself, and a connection with the natural world through which you travel.

We promote the utmost respect for the environment, the ability to pass unnoticed through the woods brings with it a deeper understanding of the wilderness, and our part in it. It is this philosophy which forms the very core of our work.

Itinerant Bushcraft Subsidies

About

The itinerant bushcraft course

We are delighted to offer these 6 fully subsides course placements to anyone with an adventure planned that would benefit from journey relevant bushcraft skills training.

“This weekend long course I've specifically designed to give you a solid foundation of bushcraft skills for use in the woods. The skills and knowledge that can be applied in the field are vast, what I've done with this weekend course is laid out the practical skills that get used, day in day out, when wild camping in the temperate woodland. You'll leave the course knowing you can set up your camp with modern or natural materials, light a fire in the worst weather and make yourself at home in the woods. Where you go from there is up to you.” -Jamie Dakota

You can read more about the course HERE

We want to make this training available to those that are planning an epic adventure in the near future, and hope to travel closely with Nature. Bushcraft skills are a fantastic way to travel light, and to connect with the landscapes through which we travel.

Submit your application to tell us about what you have planned and how this course could help you, and we’ll select 6 successful applicants that we think will get the most from our Itinerant Bushcraft Course.

This subsidy is made possible by provision from Journeyman Handcrafts and Howl Bushcraft. The team at Journeyman have always loved adventure and journeys and we’re honoured to have them support this programme. They hand-make fantastic waxed canvas gear which is rugged and fit for life on the trail.

There are 6 placements available via application and selection, applications must be submitted by April 30th 2024. The successful applicant will have their places secured by May 5th.

The subsidy represents a fully funded course placement in 2024, as such you’ll need to attend an Itinerant Bushcraft course by the end of the year. Successful applicants will receive their subsidy against the cost of the course, applied at the time of booking.
