At Howl we specialise in journeying skills, the Bushcraft we practice and teach is that of the traveler. There is a wonderful simplicity that comes from taking a trip in the outdoors, a pragmatism gleaned from necessity. We draw from this experience in the field to teach a set of skills and knowledge based in expedience and realism, skills that actually get used while outdoors. We provide an insight into the Natural world, opening up a vast array of natural resources and knowledge to help you travel with less reliance on the contents of your rucksack: it’s what you carry in your mind that matters.

We teach these practical skills in a friendly and open way, our hope being to enable you to make your adventures into the Great Outdoors memorable and enjoyable. We'll help you cultivate a positive attitude, a confidence in yourself, and a connection with the natural world through which you travel.

We promote the utmost respect for the environment, the ability to pass unnoticed through the woods brings with it a deeper understanding of the wilderness, and our part in it. It is this philosophy which forms the very core of our work.

Peregrine Days Subsidies

About

The peregrine days courses

We are delighted to offer these 8 partially subsided course placements to anyone currently consolidating their Mountain Leader Training towards their assessment. The placement is for both the ropes and the water day courses back to back in May 2024.

Ropes: Building on classic mountain skills, we’ve developed this stand alone day course for anyone looking for robust rope work to help approach steep terrain with a sensible amount of discretion to build confidence in the outdoors. Being delivered by experienced and friendly instructors, its also a wickedly fun day out!

Water: Sometimes when we’re travelling outdoors we may come across a stream which has swollen with heavy rain and now cannot be simply hopped over, or we may have chosen a long distance trail which includes some rivers to cross and we need to know how to tackle this obstacle safely.

You can read more about the courses HERE

We want to make this training available to those that are working through their consolidation period towards their Mountain Leader assessment, and are looking to benefit from this training to help pass the award. In particular we’re interested to here from applicants that are looking to use their Mountain Leader award to support young people accessing the award.

Submit your application to tell us about what you have planned and how this course could help you, and we’ll select 8 successful applicants that we think will get the most from the subsidised placements.

This subsidy is made possible by provision from Jamie Dakota of Howl Bushcraft.

There are 8 partially subsidised placements available via application and selection, applications must be submitted by March 30th 2024. The successful applicant will have their places secured by April 5th.

The subsidy partially funds course placements in 2024, the courses combined would usually represent £210 of fees. Successful applicants will receive a £110 subsidy against the cost of the course, applied at the time of booking. The remaining cost is required before the course begins in May.

Successful applicants will be asked to prove their attendance of a Mountain Leader Training course from within the last 2 years.
