Beacon™ Vented Chest Seal

Emergency treatment for penetrating chest injuries in remote environments

A fall onto a broken branch, a slip while carrying a knife or an accident with an axe or other sharp tool can cause a penetrating chest injury. Although uncommon, these injuries can be immediately life-threatening, particularly in woodland and remote locations where professional medical help may take time to arrive.

The Beacon™ Vented Chest Seal is an advanced occlusive dressing designed to help manage open chest wounds. Its transparent, six-inch circular design provides a generous coverage area, while the strong medical-grade hydrogel adhesive is designed to stick to skin exposed to blood, sweat, hair, sand or water.

Vented design for open chest wounds

This is the vented version of the Beacon™ Chest Seal. Its one-way venting system allows air and fluid to escape from the chest cavity during exhalation while restricting air from entering through the wound during inhalation. The multi-channel design helps preserve venting if part of the seal becomes obstructed.

The transparent backing makes it easier to position the seal accurately over the wound and monitor the area beneath it. A large release tab and four tear notches allow rapid access and application when time, visibility and dexterity may be limited.

Chest seals are specialist emergency equipment and should be carried alongside appropriate first-aid knowledge. Keep the seal accessible, learn how to recognise a penetrating chest injury and practise its correct application before it is ever needed.

Important: An open chest wound is a medical emergency. Call the emergency services immediately and use this product only in accordance with appropriate training and current first-aid guidance. Continue to monitor the casualty closely until professional help arrives.
