What You’ll Learn – Rattan Pack Basket Making Workshop
During this hands-on weekend course, you’ll receive expert tuition from renowned basketmaker Siegurd Van Leusen, who will guide you through every step of crafting your own traditional rattan pack basket.
Core Skills and Techniques Covered:
Introduction to rattan: Learn about this versatile natural material, its properties, history, and modern uses
Rattan preparation and selection: Understand how to work with raw materials to ensure strength and flexibility
Traditional basket weaving techniques: Master core methods like coiling, twining, and shaping
Explore basket designs and weave patterns to personalise your project
Natural dyeing techniques: Add colour to your rattan using natural dyes for a custom finish
Finishing touches: Incorporate leather or wooden handles for both aesthetic and functional value

Time: From 3:00 PM Friday – 1:00 PM Sunday
Price: £399 per person
Location: Private woodland near Harewood, just south of Harrogate (exact directions provided upon booking)

Fully catered: Evening meal on Friday, all meals Saturday, and lunch on Sunday
