What You’ll Learn - Basket Making Workshop
During this easy going workshop, you’ll receive expert tuition from renowned basketmaker Siegurd Van Leusen, who will guide you through every step of crafting your own traditional rattan basket.
Core Skills and Techniques Covered:
Introduction to rattan: Learn about this versatile natural material, its properties, history, and modern uses
Rattan preparation and selection: Understand how to work with raw materials to ensure strength and flexibility
Traditional basket weaving techniques: Master core methods like coiling, twining, and shaping
Explore basket designs and weave patterns to personalise your project
Finishing touches: Incorporate leather or wooden handles for both aesthetic and functional value
Throughout the workshop, you’ll develop a deeper appreciation for natural materials and traditional craft.
Whether you're completely new to basketry or looking to expand your bushcraft skills, this relaxed, lighthearted workshop offers the perfect opportunity to make something both beautiful and useful.

A fully finished, handcrafted rattan basket

Time: From 9.30am to 4.30pm Sunday
Price: £95 per person
Location: Private woodland near Harewood, just south of Harrogate (exact directions provided upon booking)
